Hay River Breakup 2009
Every spring when ice in the Hay River breaks up, it causes flooding to some extent in the “Old Town” part of the town of Hay River, NT. This year’s flooding wasn’t quite as bad as was expected, but was still pretty extensive.
- Flooding on the corner of 100 St. and 104 Ave.
- Looking down 101 St. towards the museum.
- A roadblock detours traffic away from Vale Island at the Hay River Airport.
- Debris floats down a flooded 101 St.
- Ice and water push up onto the public beach at Great Slave Lake, where the east channel of the Hay River meets the lake.
- Looking down 102 Ave. towards 102 St.
